Madly interested in fashion or beauty? I met these lovely girls, both superbloggers, the other night at the Soho Hotel in London – that’s Ellen from The Real Runway on the left, and Charlotte from Super Gorgeous on the right.
I don’t often get into Soho these days but blimey it’s fun. I said goodbye to my kids with a barely suppressed smile, got tiddled on free booze at the hotel and had a glimpse of the glamorous life I think I remember once having. I was there because I’m one of ‘Team 21′ bloggers nationwide who’ve been chosen by Optical Express to have their eyes lasered to demystify the operation for others. I know, I’m honoured!
I’m blind, well, moreover -1.75 shades of blind and have been almost all of my life. As a short-sighted specs wearer from 12 years, I graduated to contacts at 19 and have been wearing them until my now, grand old age of 30. Thus reads my potted optical history.
My journey with glasses
I have worn glasses since I was three years-old. I started off with what my mum would call a wandering eye. It would go right into the corner when I was tired so I ended up with some pink NHS specs with a big plaster over one lens to stop me seeing.
Having a name like Becky led to me being called ‘Specky Becky’ quite a bit but I wasn’t exactly a shy and retiring kid so I stuck up for myself pretty well.
I’ve been toying with the idea of corrective laser eye surgery for a few years now, so when the opportunity to take part in the Optical Express Team 21 project came up, it seemed too good to be true.
I only have to wear glasses for working at the computer, watching TV and reading, but I can see so much better with them on in general. The work I do as a photographer and make-up artist means it’s really important I can see clearly, yet my glasses seem to get in the way in both situations. Optical Express is celebrating its 21st birthday, and as part of the festivities, they invited 21 bloggers to have laser eye surgery and report about it. I am very excited to say that I am one of those 21 bloggers that make up Team 21. The blogs vary from mummy blogs to fashion, geeky and beauty. From the list that was revealed yesterday, I know Em from A Life in the Day of Ems
