Vicky Hutton

Laser Eye Surgery

Hi, my name’s Vicky and I’ve had surgery at Meadowhall Optical Express. It’s gone really, really well. I’m really pleased with the results. The aftercare treatment and looking after that they’ve given me, it’s been second to none. It’s been absolutely brilliant and I definitely recommend it. Okay. Thanks.

Hello, my name’s Sylvia Hardwick and I’ve just had laser eye treatment. I had it a month ago, no problems whatsoever. I can see marvellous now to what I could before and I would recommend anybody to have a go. Yeah, it’s absolutely brilliant.

Sita Patel

Laser Eye Surgery

Hi, I’m Sita Patel. I had my laser surgery at the Meadowhall Optical Express. Since having laser surgery it’s been absolutely fantastic.

I don’t have to have glasses or contact lenses when I’m at the gym, which saves glasses running down my nose whenever I’m doing a Spin class.

Other areas of my life is it makes it so much easier getting up in the morning. You see things clearly straight away. You don’t have to hunt around for your glasses or contact lenses or anything like that. It’s a lot more easier to get ready on a night out. There’s no messing around with contact lenses. I don’t have to worry that I’m putting glue in my contact lenses when I’m putting false eyelashes on.

Every aspect of my life has completely changed from working, to driving, to anything, any activity that I like doing and on top of that I am so much more confident than what I have been since I’ve been wearing, since I’ve had glasses and overall I can’t say thank you enough to Optical Express.

Hi, I’m Alistair. I had laser eye surgery at Meadowhall Optical Express in The Gallery a month ago and my vision is brilliant. I’m more than happy with the service I got. It was fantastic. Couldn’t recommend it enough to anyone that wants to go for it. Why wait, cause it’s brilliant.

Joselyn Ames

Laser Eye Surgery

My name is Joselyn, I’m 20 years old and yesterday I decided to have laser eye surgery.

I chose Optical Express because I have heard that it’s one of the major Opticians in the UK and I trusted them because I’ve heard of them before through friends. They’re also the number 1 Opticians in Europe for laser eye surgery and it’s also my normal Optician. During the treatment I felt really comfortable.

The Optician was really friendly and I was explained what would happen before the procedure, during and after, so I knew what to expect and I felt really calm about it.

Yeah, I have noticed a difference almost straight away actually. As soon as I sat up from the surgery bed I noticed that I could see a lot clearer, although it was quite misty, but it’s been one day now and already I can see without a problem and it’s really exciting.

The aftercare was really good. I got care the next day. I came in and they thoroughly looked at my eyes and felt that I was comfortable with it and that everything was going really well. They reassured me that it was, they was a slight infection, but it was alright and yeah, I’m pretty happy with it.

Yeah, I would recommend Optical Express. I think they’re really trustworthy and reliable.

Adam Farley

Laser Eye Surgery

Hi, I’m Adam. I had laser vision correction done three years ago through in Glasgow. The procedure itself was so quick and painless it was actually quite unexpected – I probably find my check-ups at the dentist worse then that was, actually.

Ever since then for the past three years it’s totally changed my life. From being able to see in the shower, what I’m doing, what shampoos I’m using, being able to swim when I go to the gym. And my main reason for wanting to have it done is I do quite a lot of sailing as well and being able to have salt water splash into my eye without irritating my contact lenses – it’s changed everything there.

From the moment that I stepped into the Renfield Street branch of Optical Express through in Glasgow, I was looked after straight away. Everything that I could possibly want to know about the procedure was explained to me in both a medical way, telling me the risks, but in a way that I could relate to myself and everything was made personal to myself when I was there.

When I arrived for the procedure day, just about a week after the consultation, again, the nurses, they looked after me, my surgeon, Dr. Mantry, looked after me every step of the way. He talked me through the whole procedure as well so I knew what to expect and what was going to happen so I was totally put at ease for the whole procedure, and ever since then I’ve had 100% confidence in all my aftercare.

If anyone was unsure about having the procedure carried out, I would just need to tell them, “go in for a consultation, find out more about it, and let the guys put your mind at ease.” Fear was the biggest thing that was putting me off. At the end of the day, your eyes are your most precious tool that you have.

At no point did I feel pressured into anything. Everything was just 100% at my pace, and the care that I’ve had has been absolutely fantastic. I’ve just had my final 2-year check-up now from having surgery done and I’m still seeing better than I did with my glasses.

Desmond Carville

Laser Eye Surgery

I’m Desmond, and I’ve had laser eye surgery done in the past two or three weeks and for me, it is wonderful. To say that it’s life transforming would be an understatement. Everything has been improved – it’s incredible.

Driving, for instance, something that we do every day, is so important. For example this morning, the weather is so atrocious that it would have made it so much more difficult to drive had I still been wearing spectacles. It’s life transforming. I would recommend it to anybody and everybody. I think it’s truly marvellous.

I would have said, to begin with, that I didn’t want anybody interfering with my eyes. That was a big, kind of a psychological barrier. But I think that I had become so fed up with glasses, having to change them every so often, they’re expensive, they’re cumbersome on the face, having to always adjust them, having to look down at my nose when I’m reading then at the same time I have to readjust quickly if I’m looking into the distance. I couldn’t recommend it more highly. It’s just truly wonderful.

Jennifer MacSporran

Laser Eye Surgery

Hi I’m Jennifer. I’m a laser counsellor at the Silverburn store in Optical Express. I’ve worked for the company for about two and a half years and I had the surgery about a year and a half ago, purely just to get rid of my glasses and contact lenses.

It was just a pain, really, having to put them in. I wasn’t so good with my lenses. It took me three times as long to get it in my left eye as it did my right, so I thought – get the surgery done, get rid of them for good. Since I’ve had it done, everything’s been absolutely fantastic. It’s just made everything a lot easier. Get up in the morning, don’t have to worry about fumbling about the lenses and glasses and everything like that. Going to the bus stop, don’t have to worry about peering at the bus number once it’s nearly right in front of me. It’s been really good for me. It makes everything much easier than it was before.

Since having the surgery done it does make it a lot easier to relate to my patients, exactly how they’re going to be feeling on the journey. It makes me want to be able to tell them exactly what’s going to happen step by step, how they’re going to feel as they’re going through the surgery. I think that makes them feel a lot more comfortable as well, and they’re happy to know that they’re with somebody who they can talk to about it and exactly what goes on.

Overall absolutely thrilled with the results of my surgery, I would recommend it to anybody. If you’re thinking about having it done, come in, find out, see if you’re suitable, and then get yourself booked in. Quite a few of my friends have come in to find out about it because they’re happy with what I can see and they really want to have it done now as well.

Jillian Kerr

Laser Eye Surgery

Hi my name is Jillian. I had laser eye surgery four weeks ago. I have to say I’m delighted with it. I was extremely short-sighted – my prescription was -9, so I noticed the difference immediately. I had virtually no after-effects of the surgery.

I decided to get it done because a close friend had had it done and spoke very highly of it. I’ve had no regrets.

I guess the thing that I’ve probably noticed the most so far is that when you wake up in the middle of the night you can look at the clock and actually see the time without having to reach for your glasses. And I’m really looking forward to going on holiday being able to not have to worry about having my glasses on for long flights, or to go swimming without having to think about it.

I know it’s quite intimidating and scary for some people to think about the actual procedure but it was nothing. I would absolutely recommend anyone to go for it. Just go for it.

Mahnaz Mohammadi

Laser Eye Surgery

Hi, I’m Mahnaz. I had my eye surgery last week and I’m happy to have it done, I wish I’d had it done earlier, and I just wanted to get rid of the glasses. It was very successful for me.

The two to three days after I had the surgery, I was looking – in the morning, or sometimes when I wanted to watch TV – I was looking for my glasses to use them and to see. Then I noticed, I realised that “No! I don’t need them anymore because I had the surgery!”

I had glasses for eighteen years, and I’m really happy to not use them anymore and I feel different, to have new vision. I’m really happy.

Michael Graham

Laser Eye Surgery

My name’s Michael. I had laser eye surgery eight days ago, and it’s the freedom. Walking in the rain, driving, especially at night, and not walking in to a warm building from cold outside and steaming up. That’s all gone now. I would recommend it to anybody.

I was very nervous when I first came, but the staff put me at ease, talked me all the way through it, explained everything to me, and the actual procedure – I was in and out in ten minutes.

It’s the best thing I’ve ever done.

Qasim Iqbal

Laser Eye Surgery

Hi, my name is Qasim and I had laser eye surgery done approximately a year and a half ago with Optical Express – August 2008. The surgery I had done was Wavefront IntraLase. Great experience overall – absolutely no problems whatsoever.

The main reasons for having surgery was mainly contact sports – I play a lot of football, do a lot of 5-a-side, do a lot of jogging and running, and I wasn’t very happy at all with my contact lenses. They kept drying out, they weren’t comfortable, they kept moving about. I didn’t mind wearing my glasses during work, and during my classes at uni, and things like that, but the big problem was contact lenses.

I decided just to get rid of everything, go for the laser, and thankfully great experience, no problems whatsoever with it. Before the surgery, you’re expecting to be quite nervous. I was quite laid back, didn’t think much of it, even though I was thinking “what if something goes wrong?” – all those things that run through your head.

But overall, great experience. Afterwards, only complication I had was a bit of dry eye, but again, using drops that were given to me by the surgeon. Day after that, I had my post-op. I went from the top level of the chart which I couldn’t see without my glasses, to seeing the bottom of the chart the day after.

Great experience. Overall, very, very happy, and would recommend it to anyone.

Roy Arthur

Laser Eye Surgery

Hi, I’m Roy. I had my laser eye surgery done about two or four weeks ago. The reason I had it done was through my lifestyle and also my work. I work as a police officer, so wearing glasses isn’t really ideal given the people you deal with. With driving, I preferred not to have glasses, so laser eye surgery was the way forward for me.

Since having it done, there’s been nothing but improvements to my eyesight. I’m more than happy with how it went. The pre-care and aftercare given here, by the staff, was first class.

Sara Cuthbertson

Laser Eye Surgery

Hi there, my name is Sara Cuthbertson, and I work in Optical Express in Silverburn Shopping Centre, and I’m an optical assistant. I’ve been working here since August, 2009, and I just had my laser surgery treatment on the 16th of February 2010. Before the surgery I was very dependent on my glasses, I had to wear them all the time. My prescription was about a -5.50 in each eye which is quite a high prescription. It meant that I was always having to wear glasses or contact lenses so laser surgery was an option for me.

Didn’t really know much about the surgery before I started working here – I’d always just assumed that glasses and contact lenses were destined for me for life, until a friend of mine, who actually works here as well, on the surgery team, recommended getting the surgery done.

He talked me through the consultation, got me booked in, and I saw the optometrist, and they told me all the things I needed to know about the surgery, told me I would see the biggest improvement with my vision because – being so dependent on my glasses I would basically not need them every again which was great!

Now that I’ve had the surgery done it’s been absolutely amazing. I have a whole new lease on life. I can do so many more things, I don’t have to worry about contacts or glasses anymore, so it’s been absolutely fantastic.

Scott Pike

Laser Eye Surgery

Hi I’m Scott Pike. I had the laser surgery about ten days ago. I was a bit nervous about the surgery but the surgeon put me at ease. It was a quick and easy procedure, very little discomfort. Things are getting better with my eyes – two or three drops each day, and they’ll soon be perfect.

The reason I went for laser eye surgery is I was waking up in the morning and my glasses were broken from falling asleep watching the telly. Also, my wee brother had it done last year, and a few friends, so they’d all said it was wonderful.

Also playing sports, don’t have the hassle of glasses and contacts. So overall my vision’s far near perfect.

I’d definitely recommend it to friends and family. I’ve had two or three people asking me how it went, and what the results are. I’ve over the moon with the results and definitely recommend it to friends and family.

Russell Stabler

Laser Eye Surgery

My name’s Russell Stabler. I had surgery at Meadowhall in June 2011. I feel it’s made a helluva difference to my life.

I’m not really a glasses kind of person, so it was more really for appearance and confidence, I suppose, to get rid of wearing glasses. I had to wear them all the time, whether it be for television, driving, cinema, football, things like that. Just being able to do these things without the inconvenience of having to put glasses on, just being able to be myself, you know. When people see me on a daily basis, I don’t wear glasses, so to be without glasses is a really encouraging factor for me and something that I’m really pleased I’ve done.

I would certainly recommend it to anyone who wants it done. All the way through, the people at Optical Express have looked after me and it’s definitely been worthwhile doing.

Natalia Gregova

Laser Eye Surgery

My name is Natalia Gregova. I have won the competition through the Optical Express. I was delighted to find out the amazing news and life changing news. Basically, how I found out about this, it was basically I was considering for a long time, since I was probably like 12 years old to do this and to undergo this surgery. Also, my father was willing to pay for it, but I was waiting, I wanted to get older, probably maybe 25 years old or something.

Well they say that it takes a couple of days for your eyes to get better, but I’m very pleased with what is already today because I can read almost everything. I can go swimming without worrying that I have to, I can’t wear lenses and I was basically before when I was wearing contact lenses I had to always take them out when I wanted to go to swim or other occasions, basically everywhere. I feel it’s going to be much easier now.

Mark Watts

Laser Eye Surgery

My name is Mark Watts. I had laser eye surgery a week ago. All went well. I wanted laser eye surgery because I wanted an alternative to glasses. They weren’t very convenient for the job that I do and also I have a 2 year old daughter who did have great fun in grabbing them as much as she possibly could. So they were starting to get damaged and I thought rather than buy new glasses I’d look at what the alternatives were.

The treatment was brief, was the most surprising thing. It was really quite quick. It was uncomfortable, but not painful. When you describe it to people, sort of a lot of people say that must’ve really hurt, but it obviously didn’t. I’ve certainly had worse pain. No, it was little uncomfortable, but not too bad.

I’m very pleased with the results so far. It’s only a week later and but actually, to be honest, within 24 hours I could see very, very well. My long range vision is better than it’s ever been, even with glasses, so yeah much happier, much improved.

Having laser eye surgery will definitely make it easier for me to do things like going swimming, which is one of the few healthy things that I actually like, so I think that will make life a lot easier and playing with my children. I have another one on the way and a 2 year old at the moment and she does like to jump up and down on my head as much as she possibly can, so yeah, I think it will make that a lot easier.

Laura Finlayson

Laser Eye Surgery

My name is Laura Finlayson and I had laser eye surgery with Optical Express. I decided to have the laser eye surgery after having the consultation. It seemed like something I would be quite comfortable to go forward with and to be free from glasses and my contact lenses.

I felt quite nervous to begin with, but the staff there made me feel quite comfortable and during the procedure, it was quite quick, so it was over and done with without any problems really.

I’m really pleased with the results, just the difference within even 30 seconds after having the surgery I knew that I was able to see more clearly and as time has went by it’s just more and more, just getting used to the idea of not having specs, it’s all quite surreal.

The staff were excellent at Optical Express. They made me feel quite at ease, quite comfortable during and after my surgery.

Having laser eye surgery, I quite enjoy swimming, especially when you go on holiday and things, not having to use your contact lenses, drying up with the heat and also in swimming with the chlorine and things like that, you can actually swim without having to worry about not seeing where you’re going.

Jilly Addy

Laser Eye Surgery

Hi, I’m Jilly Addy. This is day 2 after my mono lens laser eye treatment. Day 1, absolutely wonderful.

I can’t praise them enough, the surgeon, the anaesthetist and the nurses, they were all wonderful. No problem, but for the first 2 or 3 hours after you’ve had the surgery done it is not a pleasant experience, but then it gets better and this is day 2 and I’m fine now. I can read things, I can see clearly.

It’s really been worth having it and this is on day 2, although I do look as if I’ve got pink eyes like a rabbit, but I would definitely recommend it to my family and to my friends or to anybody watching this.

George Manoli

Laser Eye Surgery

My name is George Manoli. I’m 44 years old and I’m an Ice Cream Man. I’ve worn my glasses since I was 12 years old. I had to wear my glasses on a daily basis, without them I’d feel rather lost. I hated my National Health glasses like most children did and really didn’t like to wear them. At school I’d have to sit at the front of the class and did everything I could just not to wear glasses.

What made you consider laser eye surgery?

I’ve never considered wearing contact lenses. It’s just something that doesn’t suit me. It’s not an option that I’d want to go down. I’d thought about laser eye surgery for many years. It was last year when I decided to have laser eye surgery and I undergone the operation in January of this year.

How did you research laser eye surgery?

I did ask for recommendations and once I’d got up to the Trafford Centre, where I had my surgery done, I looked through many books and did some research on the internet as well. Actually I’ve got a friend of a friend who had laser eye surgery and the feedback that I got from visiting this friend was fantastic. Her vision has gone just unbelievable and she recommended it to her friend who recommended it to me. It was very, very good the information that I found online. There’s many people doing laser eye surgery, but I opted to go with Optical Express.

Why did you choose Optical Express?

Laser eye surgery these days is in the press all the time and you turn the telly on and there’s many adverts and it got me thinking it’d be really nice not to wear glasses and I decided to give Optical Express a call. After the initial enquiry I booked in for the consultation and I had the procedure within 2 weeks.

How were your concerns addressed prior to treatment?

There was a few things online that actually put me off and made me dig a bit deeper for some additional research. I asked the questions at Optical Express and they explained everything to me and it put me back at ease. My wife and daughter actually helped me to make my mind up and both encouraged me to go for it.

Tell us about your treatment?

My treatment cost me £1,200. On the day of surgery I was rather nervous to start with. I was put at ease by the Optical Express staff and it was over in moments. 100% worth it, I’d do it again tomorrow.

Who was the first person you called or shared your experience with?

Once I’d had the surgery the first person I called was my big brother. I told him that I had had the surgery and he couldn’t believe that I’d had it done and it was just ditch the glasses.

When did you first notice the effects of your treatment?

Within days I noticed an improvement in my sight and the eye really heals quite quickly. I was quite astonished actually.

How has this procedure changed your life?

Since having laser eye surgery my life has really changed for the better. I still play football for the veterans and my game’s just improved as I’ve got older. I play snooker now without my glasses and my game’s improved. Just every day, from driving, it’s a pleasure now to drive, especially at night. Driving’s also my job and driving is now a real pleasure since I’ve had the surgery.

What was your experience of the Optical Express team?

My experience with the Optical Express team, it was just fabulous. Very professional, put me at ease and the aftercare was just superb. I would 100% recommend Optical Express to my friends and family and even my customers.

Karen Hettmann

Laser Eye Surgery

My name’s Karen Hettman. I’m 25 and I work for Optical Express Marketing Department. My job involves PR, advertising and marketing for Optical Express as well as the dental clinic and the cosmetic clinic. The thing I enjoy most about working with Optical Express Group is that it is a global brand, no 2 days are the same and I work across marketing, advertising, PR and events and every day is a challenge.

What are your hobbies?

My hobbies are shopping, I absolutely love shopping, going out to the cinema with friends, going out for a drink, lunch with friends and I also show my 2 pedigree cats called Stan and Zac, so I’m up and down the country going to cat shows with them.

Tell us about your vision.

My prescription was my right eye was -4.75 and my left eye was -4.25, so I was very short sighted. My prescription now is I have 20:20 vision.

What made you consider laser eye surgery?

The main thing that made me consider laser eye surgery was just mainly the hassle with contacts and the problems that I’d faced with them. So it was basically coming home from a night out, I mean you’re already taking your make up off and then, I wore monthly contact lenses, so you also had to take them out, clean them, put them away and I just, it was just too much.

How did you find out about laser eye surgery?

When I started working at Optical Express I spoke to the staff, I spoke to the team that I worked with and I spoke to the clinics. I had also seen patient testimonials from patients who had had the surgery and that put my mind totally at ease.

Tell us about your treatment?

I choose Lasik Wavefront with IntraLase because of its fast recovery time. A week after surgery my eyesight was amazing. It was better than 20:20 and the best of thing of all is I could wear my mascara again, so I was happy.

When did you first notice the effects of your treatment?

I first noticed the effects of my treatment when I sat up from surgery. I mean yes, it was a bit cloudy, but I could see clearer than I could with my glasses. Believe it or not, the first person I called, actually sorry actually, I text after I had surgery was my boss here at Optical Express to say I can see already, this is amazing.

What is the best thing about having this procedure carried out?

The best thing about having this procedure carried out is the freedom. You don’t have to worry about anything. You can get up, you can go swimming, you can go to the gym, you can go shopping and not having to worry about your contact lenses.

The thing that surprised me most was how quickly the procedure was over. I was in and out within 20 minutes and the next day I was back at work and I was driving also, so I was delighted.

I can’t imagine going back to the way I lived my life before I had laser eye surgery. You totally take it for granted to be honest with you. I mean I’ve had it done 4 years and I just can’t imagine having to put contact lenses in and out every day.

Mo Matthew

Laser Eye Surgery

Hi, I’m Mo Mathew. I am 53 years old. I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon working for the NHS.

Tell us about your vision.

I suffered from a moderate degree of short-sightedness, myopia. My right eye had a prescription of -4.5 to begin with and my left eye was about -1.75 and I also had astigmatism, both eyes.

Tell us about your treatment.

I opted for the Lasik Advanced CustomVue with IntraLase. It cost me about £3,300 for both eyes. I opted to pay by direct debit because it’s easy to, to manage these payments, over the, over 12 months basically.

How do you feel now?

Oh, night and day. I don’t need glasses except to read. I follow my hobby of nature and wildlife photography without the need for, you know, stopping to wipe my spectacle lenses when they get wet or fogged up. I can swim without the need for glasses. You know, it does make a difference, a big difference.

What were you most surprised about?

What really surprised me was that the whole procedure, I’m talking about … to both eyes took less than 20 minutes. In fact my wife was surprised when I walked out because, you know, she had timed me going in and coming out and it was less than 20 minutes.

What is the best thing about having this procedure carried out?

Freedom from glasses. You need to be a spectacle user and a chronic one at that, to realise the benefits of laser eye surgery.

Sanoober Patel

Laser Eye Surgery

My name is Sanoobar Patel. I’m 25 years old. I’m a Marketing and PR Manager for a Sixth Form College. I spend a lot of time visiting schools, dealing with the social media side of things.

I wanted to have laser eye surgery for, since I was about 10 maybe, if it existed when I was 10. I really hated having glasses and I really wanted to have the freedom of not having to wear glasses on a daily basis, having to fuss around with contact lenses. So, when I finally felt I was comfortable to have the laser eye surgery I decided to go for it.

I looked at Optical Express, looked at the reviews. They seemed good. I had a friend who had already had her eyes done at Optical Express and then I decided to go for a consultation to see how the consultation would make me feel. At the consultation process of my laser eye surgery all my concerns were actually addressed. The lady that I did actually see, she was very good at talking me through the process, talking me through what would happen on the day, what would happen after, what kind of drops I’d even have to use. She got very technical with it, but that kinda put my kinda concerns at ease because it meant that I knew exactly what I was signing up for when I did.

I did look at other laser eye providers. I even went for a consultation with one of them about 4 years ago and I didn’t feel very comfortable when I went and after that I kinda just backed out and chickened out again and just didn’t do it. So you know, it did take me a while to choose my provider as well.

Once I had it done it was a huge relief. I first noticed the effects of my treatment almost instantaneously because just waking up the next morning and being able to see my clock was really strange because I’ve never noticed I had a clock on my wall, which had actually stopped, but I had a clock on my wall which I could see in the morning which was just absolutely amazing.

One of my friends actually hasn’t, hadn’t had laser eye surgery and she was very keen to find out how my laser eye surgery would go, so once I had the laser eye surgery done I literally gave her a ring and said oh my god, you have to do this, it really will change your life and her prescription was way, way, way worse than mine. So when I told her she was just absolutely amazed, she was seriously like you can see. I was like yes, I can see. She says you’re not going blind, I’m like no, I’m not going blind, I can see.

This procedure has changed my life because it means I can go away on holiday and not have to faff about with contact lenses and try and plan when I’m going to wear contact lenses and when I’m going to need my glasses. It has, it’s kinda made my life so much easier. I can wear eye makeup and I can wear sunglasses when it’s sunny. It’s like I’ve never even owned a pair of sunglasses until this year.

My experience of the Optical Express team was positive actually, extremely positive. From the moment I went for my consultation to them calling me to kind of make sure that I was okay in terms of booking my appointment, sending me texts to remind me when the appointments were, bringing me in for the procedure, bringing me up for the follow-up. I actually have no complaints throughout the entire process and I’m quite fussy when it comes to things like that.

A week after surgery I felt like I’d never had glasses and that entire week I spent my entire time testing myself. I found myself kinda walking down the road and seeing if I could read number plates from a distance and you know, testing myself if I could read something at a distance or see anything at a distance. I kept telling people oh, tell me to read that bus number, can I see that bus number. My friends were all like oh for goodness sake like, yes, I know you’ve had laser eye surgery, but for me that was a novelty, you know, being able to see at a distance and being able to read the clock in the morning and you know, being able to wake up without having to worry about looking for my glasses. I think that was just the most amazing thing for me. I don’t have any regrets at all about my laser eye surgery. It’s just changed my life, it really has.

Sue Wagstaffe

Laser Eye Surgery

My name is Sue Wagstaffe and I’m 65 and I’m retired. Before I retired I started in banking and I had a self-catering company with a friend and I’ve just been involved in charity work really since then, working at the Crosshouse Hospital. Well, my main hobby is gardening and I am the Chairman of the Gardening Club in Stewarton, but that doesn’t mean to say I know everything about gardening. I enjoy reading and walking my dog, which means that I’m out every day and I love my crossword. I buy the paper really for the crossword.

Before treatment what was your prescription?

I was very short sighted and have been since I was a teenager. I had contact lenses when I was 21 and wore them basically all the time until the last few years when I had dry eyes and had to wear my glasses a lot, a lot more. I do think glasses are, in this day and age, I think they’re brilliant. Some of the designs are wonderful, but from my point of view I just prefer to have had this treatment because I’ve been looking to have it for probably the last 20 years, so I thought it’s about time.

Why did you choose Optical Express?

I choose Optical Express because I had seen quite a lot of advertisements and I’d seen television advertisements and I went to see them and they proved to be the best.

How was your experience with Optical Express?

I have to say they were brilliant from the first initial enquiry. I had all the information I needed and went home and thought about it, went back for a consultation and every step of the way has been easy.

What were your concerns prior to treatment?

The only thing that I think I felt uncomfortable about was would it work. I did think age might have been something to consider, but no, it’s been great. There’s every opportunity to speak to the surgeon, which I did actually before I had the procedure, you know, at one of my visits and there didn’t seem to be any problem with that at all. Once I was there, I mean, it was just straightforward and 20 minutes, it’s just amazing.

How did you feel after your treatment?

It was just like magic because it had, it had worked. It was instant. As soon as I got up, you know, I could see across the room which, clearly, you know, without all the haze. Yes, it was, it was really magic, so I was quite, quite elated.

I really was fortunate I didn’t have any pain. It was a wee bit of discomfort and you’re given goggles to wear when you’re in bed because you may have the tendency to rub your eye, but even that wasn’t invasive, which I thought it would be. So a week afterwards it was almost as if it had always been, so very natural.

When did you first notice the effects of your treatment?

Immediately. I have to say that because it was. He did say when you’ve, when you get up you will see long distance and I did and it was wonderful. I don’t have any regrets at all. It was a very simple procedure really, much more so than I’d anticipated. There was very little pain, most, a wee bit of discomfort, but no, I certainly wouldn’t hesitate and I wouldn’t hesitate to encourage anyone else to have it done.
