I was always damaging or losing my glasses and it was a real hassle. I couldn't wear contacts, and I really wanted freedom from specs, not just for rowing but for every part of my life. People would often tell me they'd seen me and waved and that I'd ignored them - since I couldn't see them without my glasses on! It's great that that doesn't happen anymore.
