We are pleased to announce January’s lucky winner of laser eye surgery is Annette Hurley from Cork! When we informed Annette she would be receiving this life changing surgery completely free of charge, she was in shock and told us 'You have no idea how you've make my day/week/month!'After her initial consultation determined she was suitable, Annette had her surgery in Dublin at the start of March.

She told us:

The winner of Septembers free laser eye surgery is Catherine Cosgrave from Dublin! When she heard the news she told us:

Our lucky August winner of FREE laser eye surgery is Brendan Corcoran from Westmeath! Brendan was delighted to discover he was our winner and told us 'It seems like a dream to get this prize, I'm ever so grateful.' His consultation was carried out in our Dundrum clinic in September and had his treatment in Dublin in October. Afterwards he told us:

""I want to say a big thank you to all the staff at Optical Express. It was a big surprise to win this competition as I actually forgot I entered it! I had to call back Optical Express the next day to confirm I won it as it seemed too good to be true! I booked in my consultation the next week after I won the competition in the Dundrum clinic. I had the LASIK Wavefront Intralase treatment in the Ballsbridge clinic. The procedure itself only took less than twenty minutes and it was amazing waking up the next morning and not having to reach for my glasses! I do a lot of sports including swimming, cycling and running so for me it was a life changing event. My only regret is not getting it done a few years ago. Mary Deeny from Co. Donegall was randomly selected as our lucky competition winner for July! She was delighted to find out she would be receiving laser eye surgery from Optical Express, completely free of charge! Her initial consultation determined she would be a suitable candidate and her treatment was performed in our Dublin clinic in October. She told us:

'I have been wearing glasses since I was three years of age.....a long time. Laser eye surgery was always at the back of my mind, but I had been told that I'd never be a suitable candidate. Contact lenses were never a success and I spent a lot of money trying to find the perfect contacts for me. I just wanted to SEE.

I entered the competition on the Optical Express site and a number of weeks later I got the call to say I'd won!!! Of course I did not believe the lady because truthfully I have NEVER won anything in my life. But the email followed, then the letter & the information pack arrived and I figured this was for real!!

The appointment was made and I was still apprehensive that this would not happen for me. Consultation was very thorough and the staff were very informative & professional but so friendly that I felt at ease right away. Imagine my delight, to put it mildly, to be told I was a candidate for surgery!!

The day of surgery, I was ecstatic, this was really happening to me. The staff in Belfast were very informative and I was told exactly what was happening as the procedure progressed. The Wavefront Lasik Intralase was so quick and more or less painless, not to mention the encouragement of the nurses in the operating theatre.

I took extremely good care of my eyes post op and was meticulous about drops etc. You often hear people complain about sore eyes afterwards, but you have to take good care with drops etc and it is really only a short time to get back to normal, so it is well worth being careful.

I would highly recommend Optical Express, they are professional, friendly and very understanding. It was truly a great experience with great results.

June's lucky winner of FREE laser eye surgery is Emer McCardle from Dublin! After attending a consultation in Dublin Dundrum, Emer was excited to find out she was a suitable candidate for laser eye surgery. She has booked her surgery for September, we will let you know how she gets on! She said:

"Thank you so much to Optical Express for choosing me as a winner, this has been a truly life changing experience. I was so surprised when I got the call to say I had won, I had worn glasses for over 20 years and dreamed of the day I wouldn't need them anymore.

I had surgery in mid September just before my 30th birthday, all the staff from Newbridge and Dundrum where so pleasant and calming. I was very nervous but the procedure was completely pain free and quick and at my check up the next day my vision was better than 20/20.

Since the surgery all aspects of my life have improved, from working with children, home life with my own children, driving, exercising and cooking - all these tasks are now hassle free and easy. Our lucky April winner of free laser eye surgery is Joan Howard from Dalkey!

Joan was delighted to discover she was our winner. After being found suitable at her initial consultation, Joan had her surgery carried out at the beginning of June in Dublin and was amazed at the results.

She told us:

"When I got the phone call to say that I had won free laser eye surgery I could not believe it, I have never won anything before!

I was invited along for a consultation and although very excited I was expected to be told I was unsuitable for surgery as I have worn glasses since I started school and as I got older my eyes got worse until I ended up with a -5 prescription.

I ended up having LASEK surgery which has a 4 day recovery time. The following day was quite uncomfortable but it got easier. I just kept telling myself no pain no gain. It was definitely worth a couple of days discomfort in exchange for never having to wear my glasses again.

Having always had bad eyesight, even being able to read the time on my beside clock without first putting on my glasses is a new experience for me. Watching television is more enjoyable as everything is so much clearer, I can read the small print on the adverts!

February's lucky winner of free laser eye surgery is Sharon Morrison from County Limerick. Sharon was excited to discover she was selected as our winner and after an initial consultation in Cork, she had her surgery in Newbridge at the end of April.

She told us:

"Hi my name is Sharon Morrison and I am 21 years old, going into my last year of college. Money is very tight as I am a student.

I always wanted to get Laser eye correction done because I didn't like wearing glasses and I found contract lenses so sore.

When I went on to the Optical Express website I entered into a draw to be in a chance to win Laser eye surgery for free. I was delighted to find out that I won and I was so excited to get it done.

On the day of surgery I was very nervous but the surgeon and nurses up in Optical Express Newbridge were the best. They made me feel at ease straight away and I felt so comfortable. I was only in surgery for a few minutes and I was shocked to find out that it was finished, it was so fast.

Our first winner of the New Year is Fionnuala Lynch from Dublin! Fionnuala had already been to a consultation with Optical Express when she was notified of her fantastic prize. As she had already been found suitable, Fionnuala booked her surgery into the Dublin store at the end of April, and was delighted with the results! She told us:

"Life changing! No longer having to search for glasses that could never be found. I needed glasses for both and long and short distance so monovision certainly was the way to go! I love swimming and taking part in triathlons so not having to wear glasses is a dream come true. The staff were so professional and caring, truly a wonderful experience and totally pain free!"

Brian Breheny from Sligo is our lucky winner for December. Brian had already been in the process of booking surgery for himself as he felt his glasses and contact lenses were a hassle. When he was called, he was delighted to discover he would be receiving it from Optical Express completely free of charge!

After his initial consultation in January, Brian had his free laser eye surgery in our Dublin clinic in February and is delighted with the results. He told us:

"I entered the competition not thinking I would be in with a chance, I still can't believe my luck. Upon receiving the news needless to say I was ecstatic. The staff at Optical Express Newbridge were extremely helpful and answered all the questions I had. The day of the surgery was relaxing as the surgical team made themselves known to me and talked me through the entire procedure. The surgery itself took only seconds, I still can't believe the results. It is such a great prize to win, it was amazing to actually wake up the next day and be able to see clearly without reaching for my glasses. My eyes were so bad before the surgery that everyday routines couldn't be done without the help of glasses or contact lenses. October’s winner of free laser eye surgery was student Eswary Valaithan.

Eswary was reluctant to claim the prize at first, but after our Cork store’s reassurance, she booked her consultation.

As a student, Eswary had found it difficult to concentrate in lectures and was very excited to learn she would be receiving her laser eye surgery for free. Her treatment was carried out in Newbridge at the start of January:

"I would like to thank you for this prize it is very meaningful as I badly wanted to fix my eyes. I study drugs and medicinal product analysis and have difficulty seeing things in the laboratory and find it difficult to concentrate in lecture. Every day I come home with a headache because of my classes.

Ms Catherine Furlong is our lucky August winner of free laser eye surgery. Catherine had completed our online form as she felt that wearing glasses and contacts were a hassle and had heard positive things from friends who have had laser eye surgery with Optical Express in the past. Catherine’s surgery was carried out in December in the Dublin store and she was delighted with the results:

‘A few months back, I spent two minutes online filling out a form to win laser eye surgery. In a matter of weeks I received a phone call from Optical Express informing me that I had won. It was as simple and as easy as that. The surgery was of the most advanced kind and I was elated. Initially I was a bit worried about the surgery. I had an consultation the clinic prior to the procedure and felt more at ease with the surgery after this. The surgical procedure itself is very quick and any initial discomfort has been well worth it as I now have perfect vision and zero discomfort. It has been a matter of weeks since the surgery and it has made me feel as though I have had perfect vision all my life. Mrs Anne Bermingham is our fortunate June winner. Anne hadn't booked a consultation and was surprised when we notified her of her fantastic win. Anne said:

"I was already considering laser eye surgery when I filled out an online enquiry form to book a free consultation at my local Optical Express. Unfortunately, I had to cancel the consultation due to financial commitments which meant I couldn't afford to proceed. A few weeks later I was contacted by a lovely girl at Optical Express who told me that I had won the competition for free laser eye surgery! I couldn't believe it and even had to ask the girl to send me an e-mail confirming that this was real and not someone playing a practical joke on me. The surgery itself was painless, taking less than 5 minutes, and there was only slight discomfort for a few hours afterwards before my eyes completely settled down. By the next day I could see better than I ever! Our lucky winner of free laser eye surgery in April is Linda Young. Linda had already had a consultation will us at our Dundrum clinic when she got the call telling her she had won.

Linda said: "I've been wearing glasses for nearly 20 years and contacts for five years, I've always found them both a nuisance. I carried both of them around in case I decided to go out or needed to wear my sunglasses. I disliked taking my contacts out at night, sometimes it could take me ten minutes to get them out. I've never liked touching my eyes.

"When I got the call telling me I had won I couldn't believe my luck, it all happened so quickly. Two days after I got the call I was in Dublin having the Advanced Customvue Lasik with iFS™ 150 IntraLase procedure done.

"The procedure itself took minutes and all the staff were really friendly and reassuring. My eyes were watering on the way home from the clinic so I went to bed for an hour and when I woke up I could see perfectly.

We are pleased to announce Mr. Domhnall O'Sullivan of Dublin as our monthly winner of FREE laser eye surgery for March. Domhnall already knew he was suitable for the treatment after attending a free laser consultation at our Dublin Dundrum Clinic when he was notified of his win.

Domnhall, an aerospace engineer who has been wearing glasses for 22 years said, "As a dad of three I'm forever losing my glasses and usually buy at least two pairs as well as prescription sunglasses, which can be very expensive.

"Having already had a free consultation and knowing I was suitable for laser eye surgery, I had decided to postpone treatment for the foreseeable future for financial reasons as the school holidays were approaching. Six weeks later I couldn't believe it when I got the call saying that I had won Advanced Customvue Lasik treatment with iFS™ 150 IntraLase completely free of charge, I was absolutely thrilled!

"The whole process from start to finish was thoroughly professional. Right from the initial free consultation (which lasted about two hours) the team at Optical Express were extremely professional. At my consultation all my questions were answered and every aspect of the surgery was thoroughly explained. I did not feel under any pressure to book the surgery. It was a very informative consultation where I was told why I was suitable and what types of treatment and price options were available to me.

"When I found out I had won, I booked myself in for treatment immediately. On the day I felt immediately welcomed at the surgery clinic and was given a questionnaire to fill out. I was then seen by my surgeon for more tests and once it was confirmed I was definitely suitable for treatment I was then led into the laser treatment suite.

"I was given a local anaesthetic (which was basically eye drops to numb my eyes) so the operation itself was not painful. Although there was a slight feeling of pressure, I didn't feel any pain at all. The nurse was excellent and kept me calm throughout by talking me through the procedure step-by-step, which was great as I knew exactly what was happening and how long the treatment would take. The whole team was really supportive and really knew what they were doing, which kept me at ease the entire time I was there.

"After the surgery (which only lasted about 10 minutes!), my nurse talked through my aftercare regime, which consisted of taking regular eye drops to stop my eyes from feeling too dry and wearing very attractive eye shields at night to stop any accidental damage while I was asleep or unwanted infections while my eyes completely healed. I'm not going to lie, the first few hours after the local anaesthetic wore off were uncomfortable - a bit like peeling onions and your eyes streaming but not being able to rub your eyes. My eyes were a little swollen but I found any discomfort was eased by paracetamol and I had already arranged for my wife to pick me up from the clinic as I knew I wouldn't be able to drive right away.

"When I got home I went straight to bed and slept for about three hours straight. When I woke up I felt fine...and so did my sight! I slept on and off for most of that day but there was no pain or discomfort. The next morning I woke up and as promised my sight was even better. My vision had improved even more, the swelling was reduced and to be honest, I was thrilled with the outcome.

"When I went for my check up later the next day, I was told my vision was now two lines on the chart better than 20/20 which was confirmed again at my next check up a week later.

"I was told at my initial consultation that I would need reading glasses after treatment, basically because I'm over 40 and, like a lot of people my age, I have a slight reading prescription. I'm really glad they made that very clear before my surgery as I knew exactly what to expect my eyesight to be like after the surgery and could make a fully informed decision. Now it's much easier to just grab a pair of glasses when I'm reading the paper, but not have to worry about wearing them when I'm out playing with the kids or watching TV.

"I couldn't be happier that I entered the online competition and won laser eye surgery and I couldn't recommend Optical Express highly enough."

Our lucky February 2011 winner Miss Bernardina Vinci had the Advanced Customvue Wavefront with iFS 150™ IntraLase laser eye procedure at our Dublin clinic in April, completely free of charge. Before her win, Miss Vinci had a suitability consultation at our Dublin Wellington Road clinic and on discovering that she was a perfect candidate for laser booked her procedure.

Dina said: "I've worn glasses for 17 years and have a -3 prescription. I find glasses awkward, and contact lenses make my eyes dry and are uncomfortable when I'm working out. I'm an avid gym bunny and especially enjoy jogging and cycling. I wanted to have laser eye surgery for a long time and had finally decided to go for it before I won the competition. The suitability consultation was great, the Dublin clinic employees are lovely; they answered all of my questions and reassured me that the procedure is safe.

"The surgery was completed in a few minutes, I was able to see straight away. After the procedure my surgeon, Nafa Bader, described which drops to use and when and what to avoid for a week. I can't believe that I waited to do this. Since the treatment I feel a huge sense of freedom; there is nothing better than waking up in the morning and being able to see. I don't know how I'm going to spend my saved treatment money yet, perhaps a big trip where I can see the sights without glasses or contact lenses."

Our first winner of 2011 is Mrs. Lana Abrahamson. Lana had booked a free appointment with us to see if she was eligible for laser eye surgery but after her husband was made redundant she reluctantly cancelled. When we called her to say she was our January winner, she was delighted.

Lana said "When I got the call to say I had won free Laser eye surgery, I couldn't quite believe it. I have never won anything before. Where's the catch I thought? But it was true, and there was no catch. It would have taken me years to save for up after my husband's redundancy.

"On the day of surgery, I was a little anxious. As I arrived, the staff were friendly and helpful. One of the staff looking after me that day told me she had laser eye two years ago, which was reassuring as I had never met anyone who had laser eye surgery before. The team made laser eye surgery easy to understand, I knew exactly what to expect. The operation is a little uncomfortable but it's over very quickly. Laser eye surgery is definitely worth it.

"After the surgery I went straight home, to close my eyes and relax. It was great not doing anything, my husband spoilt me and did everything. My eyes did feel strange on the day of the procedure, slightly gritty. The next day when you open your eyes for the first time it's amazing. I could see everything clearly and I wasn't wearing any glasses.

"Life without glasses is fantastic. I don't have to re-fix my glasses when I exercise, or clean them when it's raining or when they steam up. My favourite part of not wearing glasses is hugs. I don't have to worry when my three year old son comes running towards me for a big hug. Before my treatment he had to stop short and I'd remind him 'mind mummy's glasses'. Our August prize draw winner was Ms Natalia Gregova. She filled out an enquiry form online and from all the August entries was chosen as the winner. She said "I was delighted to hear that I had won laser eye surgery. I was actually shocked, as I had never won anything in my life until now. Laser eye surgery was something I had always wanted to go for; glasses and contact lenses were costing me more and more each year."

Natalia had her treatment on the 26th October and is now seeing better than 20/20. She said "I absolutely love my new vision and am overjoyed with level of service I have received, many thanks to everyone at Optical Express for all their help and cooperation. I will definitely be recommending Optical Express to all my friends and family."

July 2010

July's winner of the free prize draw for laser eye surgery was Jennifer Dooley. Jennifer had filled out an online enquiry form but hadn't yet booked a consultation when she was notified as the winner. She had a consultation at our Dundrum clinic and is happy to be suitable for laser eye surgery. She had surgery at our Dublin Ballsbridge Clinic and is delighted with the results.

June 2010

Ms Bernie Keppel was the lucky winner in June. She had her treatment in July and is overjoyed with her new vision. Bernie said "My new vision is great! Having worn contact lenses for 22 years, the freedom of being without them is wonderful especially as I travel a lot, no more worries about a lens splitting or running out of solution. Mr Eoin Vaughan was the winner of the free prize draw in May; he entered via the online enquiry form and was drawn before he had booked his consultation. Unfortunately Eoin was found unsuitable for laser eye surgery at his consultation and was unable to proceed.

The April winner of our competition is Killian Blake of Dublin. Mr Blake attended his consultation in Dublin, and is booked in for his free laser eye surgery. He is very excited to have won, and is enjoying his life without glasses!

Valentines Day Winners

Our congratulations go to Philip Seward and Catherine Spriggs this Valentines Day. This lucky pair were the winners of our special Valentines Day laser promotion where we were offering two extra chances for our patients to win free laser eye surgery. New Year - New You Winners

We bring in the New Year by saying congratulations to our first winner of free laser eye treatment in 2009, our congratulations go to Marikune Hidalgo! Miss Hidalgo had her initial consultation on the 12th January in Surrey and was treated on the 20th January at our Harley Street Clinic by our experienced surgeon, Jonathan Carr. Miss Hidalgo is very happy with the results of her treatment and was delighted to hear that she was this months winner, winning back the total cost of her treatment.
