Optical Express Birmingham clinic rated ‘outstanding’ by Care Quality Commission

Optical Express’ clinic on Corporation Street, Birmingham which treats people suffering from cataracts, has received the highest possible rating of ‘outstanding’ in a spectacular review following a visit from the Care and Quality Commission (CQC). In a glowing report, inspectors said: “Staff treated patients with compassion and kindness, respected their privacy and dignity, and took account of their individual needs.”

The Optical Express clinic offers a range of services to patients including laser eye surgery, cataract surgery and lens replacement surgery. The clinic was rated ‘outstanding’ for its safety and leadership.

Speaking following the publication of the inspection report, Sophie Craythorne, Registered Manager from the Optical Express Birmingham clinic said; “I’m very proud of the whole team here in Birmingham and the dedication they have shown in delivering quality clinical care for the local community. We pride ourselves on the high-quality care we offer and have the ability to treat cataract patients in a matter of weeks from their initial consultation appointment, allowing them to get back to living their lives more freely once again.”

As part of the report, the CQC considered views of patients, with those interviewed saying the clinic team treated them well. One post-operative patient said that the nursing staff had been “fantastic”. Other patients to whom the CQC spoke to reported similar positive experiences.

Speaking about the team, the CQC said: "Staff provided good care and treatment and managers monitored the effectiveness of the service and made sure staff were competent. The staff worked well together for the benefit of patients, supporting them to make decisions about their care. They treated patients with care, respected their privacy and dignity, took account of their individual needs, and helped them understand their conditions. Staff also provided emotional support to patients and families with help and advice available seven days a week”.

David Moulsdale, CEO and Founder of Optical Express said:

The ‘outstanding’ rating for the Birmingham clinic, the highest rating available, is truly well-deserved.  Our clinic team in Birmingham is one of many Optical Express ophthalmology teams in our clinics across the UK providing the highest standards of patient care and we are delighted that this is being recognised within the CQC report.”
