Football Shirt Friday in aid of Bobby Moore Fund & Cancer Research UK

Optical Express staff wear their support for pioneering bowel cancer charity in memory of football legend Bobby Moore

Optical Express, the UK and Ireland’s number one provider of laser eye surgery, lens surgery and private cataract surgery, recently took part in ‘Football Shirt Friday’, encouraging staff to wear a football shirt to work to raise money for bowel cancer research in memory of football legend Bobby Moore.

The campaign, launched in aid of the Bobby Moore Fund and in aid of Cancer Research UK, aims to tackle bowel cancer. Colleagues wore an array of shirts from the English, Scottish and international football teams, and donated to the charity. The Fund is in memory of Bobby Moore OBE, the legendary World-Cup winning England football captain, who died of the disease 30 years ago. The fund was set up in 1993 by Bobby’s widow Stephanie Moore OBE and finances pioneering bowel cancer research to find better ways to prevent, detect, diagnose and treat bowel cancer.

Stephanie Moore OBE of the Bobby Moore Fund said:Mortality rates for bowel cancer have fallen significantly since Bobby’s death thirty years ago however bowel cancer remains the second most common cause of cancer death in the UK, so there’s still a long way to go. I’m so thankful to everyone who has supported us over the last ten years of Football Shirt Friday.”

David Moulsdale, Chairman and CEO of Optical Express, said “Holding Football Shirt Friday has been fun for Optical Express to get involved in. Staff from all sides of the football spectrum have come together to support the cause, and this has enhanced awareness about the Bobby Moore Fund and the impact of bowel cancer. At Optical Express we are proud to champion charitable causes that make a difference to people’s lives.”

Optical Express are proud to have supported hundreds of humanitarian and philanthropic projects for more than 30 years, donating over £33 million and counting to worthwhile causes in the UK and abroad.
