Optical Express takes on ‘Off The Beatson Track’, raising over £40,000 for cancer charity

A team of almost 100 employees from Optical Express, the UK’s only complete eye care provider and provider of laser eye surgery, premium intraocular lens surgery and private cataract surgery have raised over £40,000 for Beatson Cancer Charity in Glasgow by taking part in a 10km charity walk.

Optical Express employees raised over £20,000 for the Beatson Cancer Charity and the company has announced it will double that figure, to reach a total of over £40,000, adding to the great efforts of all the participants on the day. The money raised will help to support the charity’s vital work on patient wellbeing, clinical research and education as well as provision of practical care and support.

Martin Cawley, CEO of Beatson cancer charity said:

"We are totally overwhelmed by the incredible donation of £40,168.53 from the team at Optical Express. With 88 of their workforce taking part in our walking event, along with their friends and families, they have raised an incredible amount for our charity, which will help us to support so many cancer patients and their families. The team behind Optical Express do a fantastic job and we are delighted that they chose to support us.”

The Beatson is based within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde on the Gartnavel Hospital campus and is the busiest cancer Centre in the UK.

The team at Optical Express were the largest group to tackle the 10km walk which starts and ends at the Riverside Museum and takes in much of Glasgow’s west end including the Beatson Centre itself.

When reflecting on the event, Aimee Ferguson, a participant from Optical Express said:

“It was amazing to be involved in the event as the cause is very close to my heart as it is to so many of my colleagues who took part. There was something very special about walking with so many people who were all there for the same cause but with their own heartfelt reasons.  The sun was shining and we were incredibly proud of ourselves when we finally reached the finish line, knowing the difference the money we raised will make.”

David Moulsdale, CEO and Founder of Optical Express says:

“We are proud to have supported our team in completing the 10km walk for Beatson Cancer Charity. They showed dedication and commitment to the cause, raising over £20,000 and counting and I am excited to announce that we will be doubling the sum raised by their efforts. Optical Express feels passionately about supporting charitable causes and we hope that the money raised can help patients and their families at a challenging point in their lives.”
