Optical Express fulfills its 'Eastern Promise' to help children's charity auction

Optical Express recently donated a voucher for laser eye treatment to the 'Eastern Promise' Charity Ball, helping to raise £60,000 on the night for the GEM Appeal Charity.

Hosted by TV personality Denise Welch, the Bollywood themed-ball was held on 17th November at the Principal hotel in Manchester's city centre. Special guests including Coronation Street actress Victoria Ekanoye and former X-Factor winner Joe McElderry were wowed by Middle Eastern exotic décor, dragons and geishas.

Optical Express donated a voucher, exchangeable for laser eye treatment of up to £5,000. The auction and donations made on the night raised £60,000 in total for GEM Appeal.

The charity was started in 1994 after it's founder Karen Johnson was approached by a Consultant to raise money for the hospital her two sons, Simon and Mike, were being treated at for the generic illnesses. The brothers sadly passed away when they were 12.

To date, the charity has raised millions of pounds to fund research into these sections that children and young people face.

Denise Welch is the Patron of GEM appeal.
